Slight decrease of stress at Renault.

Keywords: stress, Techocentre, workload, FRANCE, Renault.

The situations of "tight labor" have receded in Technocentre last year, but the crisis poses new risks.

"Fortunately we have launched our plan against the stress before the crisis. Otherwise, I do not know which level we have reached today, "said Le Figaro Bernard Ollivier, the director of engineering at Renault sites (13,000 people), the most important is the Technocentre Guyancourt, Yvelines.
Renault launched its anti-plane stress on these sites in 2007, after three Technocentre employees. Among the responses: the narrowing of the range of opening hours, and the creation of jobs human resource managers and local assistants in charge to better align the workforce to the workload.
This initiative was partly borne fruit. Employees of sites where engineering "Tight labor" have increased from 31.2% to 27.7% between 2007 and 2009, according to the latest survey by the consulting firm Technologia, whose final version was presented in late April to unions. Although fairly high, this level corresponds to the average Technologia by other companies.
If the plan led by Renault has helped to reduce stress by addressing some of its origins, such as lack of listening to managers, workloads are too high or abnormally long days, the crisis has accentuated the parallel risk of tension. It has indeed caused many voluntary departures of employees (1,500 for engineering), and the interruption of contracts 3,000 providers. In addition, several projects have been frozen, causing 19 days of short-sites "tertiary" between September and December. The result is a sense of job security threatened and an intensification of work over four days.

New Strategic Plan:
The crisis has also forced to leave Renault last year's three-year strategic plan 2009 '. "We are in an intermediate phase, which is not easy for employees. The new plan motivating the group to announce the end of 2010 will arrive just in time, "said Bernard Ollivier, who recalls that with the freezing of some projects, there has been" a period when he had to do more at a pedaling . For now, only 50% of respondents said "to be in no doubt as to the strategic choices of the group. More generally, the rate of satisfaction with professional status, from 67% in 2007 to 56% in June 2009 and 49% in December 2009.
Another disturbing factor, Renault, for best use its sites of settlements, will concentrate on five sites, and in particular on the Technocentre, host of additional 4,000 people by 2012 (including sales manager). This involves moving a number of employees in Guyancourt. "The operation could be a little shoehorn. The next study on stress might reflect, "said Gerard l, delegate central CFE-CGC.
More motivating, 1000 Renault's engineers are currently working on developing the electric car. One hundred recruits per year are planned over the next three years. Finally, special project "rewarding" the Technocentre will have to learn to work with German engineers from Mercedes, including developing a common platform for future Twingo and Smart Forfour. "This can only bring us new ideas," enthuses Bernard Ollivier.
